australian-faith-community-nurses-associationAFCNA is the peak professional assocaition for Australian Faith Community Nurses (FCNs) who are also know as parish nurses and pastoral care nurses.

AFCNA exists to promote, support and educate nurses to be involved in health care within Christian faith community settings. FCNs provide whole-person care of body, mind and spirit. Their practice focuses on promoting health and preventing illness, abuse or injury, and enabling people to manage their existing health conditions so they can maintain optimal health and well being within their community. FCNs work in various faith community settings including churches, faith-based schools, aged care services, community services and disaility support services, which are conducted under the auspices of a faith community.

Nursing functions of an FCN include: health promotion, disease prevention, resource and referral services that enable a person to navigate the health system, facilitating access to health support, assistance with care management and health educaiton, training and coordinating of community volunteers that suppor the FCN role.
